DESCRIPTION<\/h2>\n

Kayama Matazō (加山又造, 1927-2004) was a Japanese-style painter and printmaker. Leading figure of the Japanese art world from the Shōwa period to Heisei period. Studied under Yamamoto Kyujin. Member of the Sōgakai. Emeritus professor of the Tōkyō Geijutsu Daigaku (Tōkyō University of Arts). Recipient of the Bunka Kunshō (Order of Culture).<\/p>\n

  • 1927: Born in Kyōto. His father was a designer of dyed textile and grandfather was a Maruyama painter.<\/li>\n
  • 1940: Entered the Kyōto Prefectural School of Art and Crafts (present-day Kyōto City Dohda Senior High School of Arts).<\/li>\n
  • 1944: Entered the Tōkyō Fine Arts School (present-day Tōkyō University of the Arts).<\/li>\n
  • 1949: Graduated from the Tōkyō Fine Arts School. Became a pupil of Yamamoto Kyujin.<\/li>\n
  • 1950: Won a prize for the first time at the 2nd Sōzōten Exhibition in spring.<\/li>\n
  • 1959: Founded the Todorokikai with Ishimoto Tadashi and Yokoyama Misao.<\/li>\n
  • 1966: Became a professor of the Tama University of Arts.<\/li>\n
  • 1974: Entered the Sōgakai.<\/li>\n
  • 1984: Completed the ‘Bokuryū’ (Dragon in Ink) Minobusan Kuon-ji Temple Main Hall Ceiling Painting.<\/li>\n
