Itō Jakuchū<\/a>, Ikeno Taiga<\/a>, Yosa Buson<\/a>, Maruyama Ōkyo<\/a>, and Soga Shōhaku<\/a> were all active painters in Kyoto in the 18th century.<\/p>\n According to the Heian Jinbutsushi, Maruyama Ōkyo was by far the most popular artist at that time, but what is their popularity ranking in modern Japan?<\/p>\n We asked around 30 of the participants in our survey to choose their favourite painter from the above five, and we have now produced a ranking of their popularity.<\/p>\n The results are as follows.<\/p>\n It\u014d Jakuch\u016b, Ikeno Taiga, Yosa Buson, Maruyama \u014ckyo, and Soga Sh\u014dhaku were all active painters in Kyoto in the 18th century.
